Want to help support our work?
Lewisham Opportunity PreSchool is a registered charity and managed by a volunteer committee, consisting of parents and friends of families that attend LOPS.
In order to provide 1:1 or 1:2 care for children with additional needs, we run several events throughout the year, to generate income that is required to cover the additional staffing costs. If you would like to run an event, run a marathon for LOPS or fundraise in another way - take a look at our fundraising page here:
Lewisham Opportunity PreSchool (LOPS) opened on the 22nd September 1981 in Trinity Church Hall, Catford and moved to its current site on Longbridge Way in 1986.
The Pre-school grew out of a need shown by parents of children with special needs to have a play facility, where their children could integrate with children without special needs. This also gave the parents an opportunity to meet other parents and carers for information and support in a relaxed environment.
Lewisham Opportunity PreSchool is a charity run by a volunteer management committee made up of past and present parents.
Lewisham Opportunity Pre-School is an inclusive setting that provides professional care and education to children of all abilities.
We provide a stimulating environment that supports all areas of development especially communication as this is the most important skill required in order to support all aspects of child development.
The staff all hold early years qualifications and attend a variety of additional training courses to meet the children's individual needs.
At Lewisham Opportunity Pre-schoool there is a big emphasis on working with parents, due to the levels of support the parents and carers may require in order to meet their child's individual needs.
We have a higher adult to child ratio than the legal requirement which is 1:4 for 2-3 year olds and 1:8
for 3-5 year olds. Employing more staff enables us to support children on a 1:1 or 1:2 for
children where necessary. We do not guarantee 1:1 support for children without an EHCP plan.
In 2016, we received another 'Outstanding' by Ofsted.
